New Auxilliary Bishop Of Onitsha Archdiocese Ordained.

A new Auxilliary Bishop for the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha has been ordained. He is His Lordship Most Rev. Denis Chidi Isizoh. The new Bishop hails from Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government of Anambra State.

            Until his consecration, he was a Monsignor on a mission at the Vatican.

            Advance reports streaming into our newsroom from the venue of the consecration, the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha, said the consecration ceremony was presided over by His Eminence, Francis Cardinal Arinze with the Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, other bishops and priests concelebrating.

            Our field reporters say the Basilica square, Onitsha is filled up with thousands of faithful from across the parishes in the Archdiocese and other dioceses from the country and overseas.       While full reports of the consecration are being awaited, we received reports of the arrival and reception of the former Bishop-elect on landing at the Asaba Airport and the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Onitsha, on Saturday.

            At the Asaba airport, a powerful delegation appointed by the Archbishop led by the Onitsha Archdiocesan Vicar General, Monsignor Basil Onwuasomba and the Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Anthony Asoanya, received the Bishop-elect.

            Others on the entourage to receive the Bishop-elect include Priests and head of Onitsha Archdiocesan Organisations namely Lady Beatrice Madueke of the C.W.O., Bro Nnajiaku of the C.M.O., Sir Ben Onyeka of the Laity Council and the state adviser on religious matters, Major General A.I. Okafor, KSJ.

            At the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, the Bishop-elect then, arrived at the warm embrace of the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, His Eminence, Francis Cardinal Arinze and host of other Priests, the religious, the lay faithful and school children.

            Chairman of the ordination committee, and Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese, Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Patrick Omutah and members of his committee were on hand to receive the Bishop-elect after which he celebrated benediction in the Basilica.

            In a brief remarks after the benediction, the Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke described the event as a day of great joy; saying, ‘we thank God who has given the new Bishop to us.

            He urged both the foreign and local visitors to feel at home and pray for the success of the ordination.

            In his own remarks, the chairman of the consecration committee Rev. Fr. (Dr) Patrick Omutah expressed gratitude to God ‘for the gift of our brother as the Auxilliary Bishop of Onitsha.
