Double Barrel Anniversary As Msgr Nathaniel Obiagba Celebrates 50 Yrs In Priesthood, 80Th Birthday

It was a beehive activites recently at Holy Spirit Parish Omagba when one of the respected Monsignori Rt Rev. Msgr Nathaniel Obiagba celebrated his priestly golden gubilee and his 80th birthday in a colourful style.

            The spectacular event witnessed the presence of the prince of the Church His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze, Archbishop Valerian M. Okeke and other Bishops.

            Also the priests, religious, faithful were in their large numbers to grace the epoch making occasion.

            In a Holy Mass to mark the event, Very Rev. Fr. PG Akpenonu while preaching described the jubilarian as a high priest of God who have served the church in different capacities, adding that he is not just a priest but a lawyer, teacher and a great preacher of the gospel of Christ.

            The Homilist also described that Msgr. Obiagba who was once a commissioner in the government was devoted and committed to his priestly ministry, describing him as a great counselor, who is living a life of correct embedded in happiness.

            He likened Msgr Obiagba’s ministry to that of prophet Jeremiah in the bible revealing that his impeccable character is a source joy to any one close to him.

            Archbishop Val who spoke earlier in the Mass also eulogized the priestly style of Msgr. Obiagba describing the jubille as 50 years of God’s favour.

            Francis Cardinal Arinze also in a speech expressed gratitude to God for sustaining the celebrant for the past 50 years in priesthood and 80 years of his existence in the world.

            The Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University Prof Fidelis Uzochukwu Okafor in an interview with press at the event said the jubille called for thanksgiving adding that the jubilanrian inculcated discipline in the students when he taught at the seminary “He is a man of many pasts”.

            Chief Cletus Uchendu and Chief Ezeonwuka (Ogilis Igbo) in their similar views urged the celebrant to remain focused and steadfast in his priestly ministry. The duo also described him as a guru in priesthood.

            The national chairman All Progressive Grand Alliance Chief Victor Umeh who also spoke to the press said the Jubilarian is a very humble and exemplary pastor. “He has done so much toward the growth of the church particularly in the area of evangelization”.
