There was a tremendous harvest of fishes at a local community in Agwe-Akili, Ogbaru local government as the Senator-elect for Anambra North Senatorial District Princess Stella  Adaeze Oduah bankrolled a fishing festival/contest in the Island recently.

The event which took place in an expansive lake in the community attracted youths and the elderly people who participated unhindered in the festival.

As early as 6am, children, youths and elderly women trekked so many miles to the Island while some came from neighbouring communities in Atani, Ochuche and Umunankwo with canoes to watch the festival and also buy fishes.

The entire scenario took the shape of the famous Argungun festival as fishermen and women, youths children swarned the lake to make a catch.

Princess Stella Oduah who arrived the Island after a long trek, crossing the River Niger with a boat wore a red trouser, a hat and dark goggles to beat the intense sun while her aides later ferried two Golf course cars across the River Niger to aid her movement which had become very rigorous.

On sighting the Princess inside what looked like a thick jungle, the fishermen and other enthusiasts rushed out from the lake to catch a glimpse of the Princess.

Some of them who made huge catches demonstrated their generosity by presenting some fishes to the Princess and as well smoking them for preservation.

In a brief speech, some of the community leaders who spoke to the Princess thanked her for encouraging the fishing festival/contest. They urged her to use her good offices to assist in making the area a tourist attraction, by developing and providing all the necessary infrastructure in the place.
