The residents of New Generation Estate Nkwelle Ezunaka last week called on the Executive Governor of Anambra state Chief Willie Obiano (Akpokue dike global) to construct their access road that is posing great challenges to motorists.

The residents made this passionate call while addressing the press during a religious function at the estate.

The president general of the Estate Chief Donatus Anya who spoke to the press said they are worried that very soon if care is not taken, the residents of the Estate will no longer come home or go out with their vehicles because of the deplorable condition of the access road to the estate. The foundation stone of the estate he said was laid by the erstwhile governor Peter Obi, stating that every attempt to draw the attention of Obi’s administration to the estate in respect of road construction and other amenity yielded no fruit.

The president general also told the press that the current governor Chief Willie Obiano was the governor who officially declared the estate open through the commissioner for Industry, stating that during the ceremony, the state government pledged to provide amenities with other promises such building of roads, construction of drainages and installation of electricity at the estate but till today none of the promises has been fulfilled except electric transformer that was brought to them.

The president further stated that the residents of the estate has already spend over 8 million naira on construction of drainage system, pointing out that without such effort, the area could have  been taking over by erosion.

“Every development you saw here was made possible through our own collective efforts. We have contributed money and installed electricity to every part of the estate. We are right now constructing drainage system that is gulping millions of naira. Our great challenge now is the construction of the roads in this estate especially the access road. We therefore call on our amiable governor to come to our rescue and construct the access road for us”.

“We have met every requirement expected of us before building the estate. We pay our tax as when due. We will be grateful if the governor remembers us at this critical time. Right now if rain falls heavily, there will be no movement inside the estate because of the bad road. I pray that the governor will listen to us this time because he has the interest of the Anambrarians at heart”.

“He is a working governor who   pays salaries as when due. Akpokue Dike Global not withstanding the present economic situation is transforming the state. Every sector is witnessing transformation, and we will not relent in supporting his life changing agenda,” he explained.

Also contributing Chief Uche Fausty Nwankwo disclosed that the residents of the estate are making serious effort to develop the place but still needed government attention and assistance. “We have written series of letters to the state government to address our urgent needs such as road construction and others but we are yet to get good response,” he explained.

The past president of the estate Chief Ndimkora Aloysius in his remarks said his administration also made fantastic effort to attract the state government to the estate.

Chief Godfry Okafor and Chief Emmanuel Ozoh in their similar views called on the state government to step into the estate and see what the residents have been able to achieve and as well assist them in getting their roads tarred.
